Thursday morning’s volunteer gardening group was very busy!
We had a group from the West Shore Adult Day Program drop by to learn about working in the gardens. We paired each member of the group with a gardener to work with – it was great!
Later after lunch Jennifer and Program Coordinator of the site, Crystal Kashman had the pleasure of accepting a beautiful yellow Rose(Cha Ching) from alumni members of the St Ann’s Academy grad class of 1964. They had a formal (but informal) planting of the rose with a special dedication poem and singing of the St. Ann’s Academy School song. We would like to thank Donna Dodds, Dianne Burgess, Marion (who wrote and read the poem), Glenda Minten, and Donna Thompson. Also present were Roy Merrick, Walt Burgess, and Darryl Wildin. Thank you for coming and making this special donation to the garden. We know the rose will be a special feature in the garden and will shine its bright colours during the year.
We are glad the rain has finally come as all the plants on the island have been extremely stressed from the long drought and high summer temperatures. The sunflowers are so unique with every flower different from any other.
